Honda has revealed a new concept small hybrid to be named Insight. Whaaat? I thought it already had an Insight. The original Honda Insight pioneered hybrid technology in the U.S. and was on the market long before the Toyota Prius. Apparently Honda will be showing off their new jewel at the 2008 Paris International Auto Show, Oct. 2, 2008 and from the looks of it, it will be a big hit.The new Insight Concept looks like a cross between Honda’s FCX Fuel Cell vehicle and a Toyota Prius. The main difference in the new Insight and other Hybrid vehicles will be the price point. Honda states that it will enter the market spring of 2009 and at a price significantly below other Hybrids that are available today. Yea!
On the technology side, Honda has made great advances with its Integrated Motor Assist™ (IMA™) hybrid technology which boils down to “More Affordable.”
The new Hybrid Insight will be offered as a five-door, five-passenger hatchback with a fold down rear seat.
Following the launch of the new Insight, Honda also plans to introduce another unique sporty hybrid vehicle based on the CR-Z Concept that was first shown at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show.
The original Honda Insight was introduced in December 1999, as America’s first gas-electric hybrid car. The first vehicle to break the 70-mpg fuel economy barrier, Insight was designed from the ground up to demonstrate the ultimate potential for fuel-economy in a 2-seater subcompact automobile.
